7 TIPS FOR TAKING ONLINE DANCE CLASSES

7 TIPS FOR TAKING ONLINE DANCE CLASSES

2020 has changed the way we would normally experience many things, including our mostly missed face to face activities but we have learned in 2020 that we as humans are more adaptable than we think. As ways of life are different for the time being, we must change with them. Online classes on programs such as ZOOM are now the new normal and a common way for children /adults to particpate in their weekly activities/ exercise classes.

Let’s help you get the most out of it

1. Space

Set up and tidy your dance space prior to class, it is important that you have a clear space, free from any safety hazards. You might need to push back furniture like the coffee table and couch to give you more space. Use the same space, as your dance studio every class. This will help get you into the mindset that every time you are in this space with the room set up like this that it’s time to dance and will minimise new distracts from a different room that you are not used to doing your dance class in.

2. Neat and Tidy

Make a routine of doing a quickly tidy of the room you have selected as your dance studio, before every class.Pick up any toys that are on the floor, clear aside any rugs that may be tripped on and any toys or distractions in the room. As your dancer gets tired if there are any distractions in the room, as such toys they will be easily tempted by these, so make sure they are out of sight. A room clear of clutter and distractions will help put your dancer’s best foot forward and help them concentrate to the best of their ability.

3. Get Organised

Make you have put together all the things you may need for class before the class and put them somewhere easily accessible in your dance space, including a water bottle. This will eliminate reasons to leave the room during your dance class.

4. Turn OFF the heater

Even though it still can be quite chilly especially in the mornings, ensure your heater is turned off during your dance class. It is a better option to start the class wearing a jumper or a knit, rather than having the heater on.Dancing with the heater on will leave the dancer feeling dehydrated and may cause headaches and nausea.

5. Get out of your ISO clothes

Your dance class is an opportunity to get out of home mode and do something that makes you feel good! So put on a fresh outfit that is suited to the style of your dance class and do your hair, just as if you were coming to dance class at the studio. This will help you shift your mindset from home to dance studio!

6. Arrive early

Try not to be late! Log into your class, 10-15 minutes before your class starts. This allows time to set up the camera to have the best angles, any technolgoy or wi-fi malfunctions.

7. Get the most of out technology

Elevate your screen, so you don’t have to look down to see your teacher. The larger the screen the easier it is to follow along, so if you have access to screen mirroring or a HDMI cable to plug into the smart TV this is the best option to use. You also have the capability to screen record your classes, so you can do it at another time during the week before your next class.

Final thoughts…

Participating in a class online, is a much better option to missing out completely. Online classes are not always seamless and there can be technology hiccups, however we are all doing our best. Remember to be patient with yourself, your parents and with technolgy and do the best you can each and every class!
